Discover the layered history of Morocco's cultural capital on this full day guided tour of Fes, combining a scenic ramparts drive with an immersive walking tour of the ancient medina. Led by a licensed local guide, this tour is designed to give you both the wide-angle view of Fes's fortified walls and monuments, and an up-close look at the daily life, craftsmanship, and architecture inside its winding alleys.

The day typically begins with a comfortable drive around the historic ramparts of Fes, taking in landmarks that are difficult to reach on foot. You'll pass the ornate golden gates of the Royal Palace, explore the atmospheric streets of the Mellah, the city's centuries-old Jewish quarter, and stop at Borj Nord, a hilltop fortress with sweeping views over the medina rooftops. Nearby, the Marinid Tombs offer one of the best panoramic viewpoints in the city, perfect for photos and a sense of just how vast Fes el-Bali really is.

From there, the tour continues on foot into Fes el-Bali, the old walled medina and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Passing through the iconic Bab Boujloud, the blue gate that marks the entrance to the old city, your guide will lead you through narrow lanes to some of the medina's most significant monuments. Stops typically include the exterior of Al Quaraouiyine University, recognized as one of the oldest continuously operating universities in the world, and the Bou Inania Madrasa, celebrated for its carved cedar wood and detailed zellige tilework. You'll also visit Place Seffarine, where coppersmiths still shape trays and lamps by hand, and the famous Chouara Tannery, where leather has been dyed using traditional methods for centuries.

Along the way, your guide shares context on the medina's history, its Marinid-era architecture, and how the old city is organized into distinct quarters based on trade and craft. There's time to browse local souks, ask questions, and pause for tea or lunch at a traditional restaurant if you choose.

This full day guided tour and ramparts excursion is a comprehensive way to understand Fes, both its outer fortifications and its living inner medina, and suits history lovers, first-time visitors, and anyone wanting a deeper cultural introduction to the city.
